Mosul, Iraq – An Arab businessman has paid ransom to release 45 Êzîdîs from the captivity of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS). The businessman was able to free these Êzîdî men, women and children on one of the slave markets in Mosul for a payment of 30.000$.

The Arab news channel Al-Sharqia as well as the Kurdish TV channel WaarTV reported this unanimously. In a live interview with WaarTV and in the presence of the freed Êzîdîs the businessman explained his motives. As it was said, his chief motive was to “do a good deed” by helping these Êzîdîs escape from their torturers.

The 45 Êzîdîs were captured and taken away by IS terrorists during the attacks on the Shingal region in Northern Iraq.  After having been released, they are now on the way to refugee camps in Kurdistan (KRG) in order to look for their relatives. Thousands of Êzîdîs are still in the hands of IS terrorists. Young women and girls are being passed around as sex slaves and forced into marriages with terrorists. Others are being sold on slave markets in Iraq and Syria.

Due to the support by Arab-Sunni tribes in Shingal for the IS terrorists during their attack on the region, many Êzîdîs demand a resettlement of their former Arab neighbors. Their relationship is said to be broken beyond repair and their trust is lost.  For some time now, the treachery of the former neighbors has led to anger and rage among the Êzîdîs. An act, such as the one shown by the Arab businessman, could help to ease the tension. Multiple times Arab-Sunni private- and businessmen have paid ransom especially for Êzîdî women and have taken them back into the care of their families.
